Six Levels of English language learning

Introduction 

All school and college students and their teachers claim to have learnt English language. However, they all are not sure how good they are at it . Some of them fail to read a text written in English language. Some of them have problem with pronouncing words accurately . Some can read and write things written in English language but are unable to speak in English confidently . Some make mistakes in using grammar , so on and so forth . In view of same issues, the experts of English language have categorised the users of English language into six groups . In other words , they say that there are , globally accepted , six levels of English language learning . I have explained all those levels below in simple words for the benefit of you all . Read them one by one and then guess the level of English language you are at.

Level One : A1 / Beginner 

Level Two : A2 / Elementary level

Level Three : B1 / Intermediate level

Level Four : B2 / Upper intermediate level

Level Five : C1 / Advanced level 

Level Six : C2 / Mastery 


Level One : A1 / Beginner :- At this level , you can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases . In short, your vocabulary is limited to 100-200 words/expressions . 


Level Two : A2 / Elementary level :- At this level , you can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance . For example , very basic personal information , shopping, local geography and employment. In short , you can understand only commonly used sentences . 


Level Three : B1 / Intermediate level :- At this level , you have mastered the basics of English and have practical language skills for everyday use . In short , you can interact with non-native speakers confidently in English language. 


Level Four : B2 / Upper intermediate level :- At this level , you can live and work independently in an English speaking country or study in courses taught in English . In short , you can easily read , understand and write things in English .  


Level Five : C1 / Advanced level :- At this level, you can express yourself fluently without much obvious searching for expressions . You can also use language effectively for social , academic and professional purposes. In short, you can argue , lecture and deliver speeches anywhere and anytime confidently in English . 


Level Six : C2 / Mastery : - At this level , you can understand with ease virtually everything you hear ( in various accents ) or read in various fonts . You can express yourself very fluently and precisely , differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations. In short, you sound like a native speaker .

Check your results . Well , if you score thirteen out of twenty-five , you are a beginner. If you score fifteen out of twenty-five , you are at the elementary level . Look at the entire list below to guess your level : 

1) 13/25 = A1 = Beginner

2) 15/25 = A2 = Elementary level

3) 17/25 = B1 = Intermidiate level 

4) 20/25 = B2 = Upper intermediate level

5) 23/25 = C1 = Advanced level 

6) 25/25 = C2 = Mastery
