How the Prophet ﷺ Celebrated Eid

How the Prophet ﷺ Celebrated Eid

Introduction: Eid is a day of happiness. It is a gift for Muslims after a month of sincere worship in Ramadan. Do not displease God on this blessed day. Celebrate it with dignity and grace. Visit your friends and relatives, spend time with them and enjoy good food together. Let this Eid be celebrated in a truly Islamic way.

This is how the Prophet ﷺ Celebrated Eid:

1. Woke up early on the day of Eid.

2. Performed Ghusl (ritual bath).

3. Wore his best clothes.

4. Applied perfume (for men only).

5. Ate an odd number of dates before Eid-ul-Fitr prayer.

6. Did not eat before Eid-ul-Adha prayer.

7. Recited Takbeer while going to the Eid prayer.

8. Went to the Eid prayer ground (Eidgah).

9. Took one route to the prayer and returned by another.

10. Offered Eid prayer in congregation.

11. Delivered the Eid khutbah. (We have to listen to the khutbah attentively.)

12. Gave Zakat al-Fitr before Eid prayer.

13. Exchanged Eid greetings with others.

14. Allowed lawful entertainment on Eid.

15. Watched cultural performances (like the Abyssinians in the mosque) and encouraged family to enjoy, including Aisha bint Abu Bakr (RA).

16. Encouraged love and kindness among people.

17. Giving gifts or Eidi (permissible, cultural practice).

18. Visiting relatives and friends (encouraged in Islam).

19. Spreading happiness among family, children, and friends.

20. Avoided turning Eid into a day of grief (e.g., no specific practice of offering condolences on Eid for those who died recently).

_Two Authentic Ways of Eid Prayer_

Six Takbeers (Common in Hanafi practice)

1st Rak‘ah: 3 extra Takbeers (after the opening Takbeer)

2nd Rak‘ah: 3 extra Takbeers (before Rukū‘)

👉 Total extra Takbeers = 6

================

12 Takbeers (Non-Hanafi Way of Offering Eid Prayer)

1st Rak‘ah:

👉 1 opening Takbeer + 6 extra Takbeers (before recitation)

2nd Rak‘ah:

👉 5 extra Takbeers (before recitation)

Then complete the prayer normally.
