Being Financially Illiterate?

                   Being Financially Illiterate?

Fake lifestyle finally leads to 'fakiri'.

Simplicity is sincerity. Showing off leads to self-destruction.

The image highlights how '' Gen_Z'' is fast becoming the poorest generation despite appearing affluent, driven by a culture of show-off and social media validation. Around ''70% of iPhones in India are bought on finance'' and young earners routinely spend most of their salaries on EMIs for phones, sneakers, bikes, expensive marriages and cars merely to maintain status. This obsession with looking rich has led to a sharp rise in personal debt, with ''credit card defaults jumping nearly 500% between 2020 and 2024'', while basic financial safeguards like savings, health insurance and life insurance are widely ignored. Fake lifestyles—staged travel, borrowed luxury and manufactured online clout—mask the reality of financial fragility. The moral is clear: ''a generation that prioritises appearance over financial literacy will earn more but own less, save less and remain permanently poor despite the illusion of wealth.

Today, many people depend on EMIs and loans to buy things they want. According to ''Business Today'' (21 October 2025), a finfluencer said that about 70% of iPhones and 80% of cars are bought on loans or EMIs. Household debt is rising. Buying a home usually needs a big housing loan, which makes up around 29% of household debt, as per RBI data. Even small things like Nike shoes and concert tickets are now sold on EMIs. Weddings have also become expensive, and many couples take loans of about ₹15.5 lakh, as reported by WedMeGood (2025–26). This shows that people are buying more with borrowed money, which may not be safe in the long run.

The funny thing is that people who fail to understand even the basics of English tenses often claim to be big fans of English-language singers such as Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Dua Lipa.

In short, much of modern life is about showing off. The richer people look, the weaker their real financial position may be. They buy things they do not need, with money they do not have, to impress people they do not know.

Income zero, lifestyle main hero
