Give a woman financial freedom, she will give you a divorce?

I hold great respect for women and I have even greater admiration for those women who are intelligent and yet choose to dedicate themselves to raising families. However, it is unfortunate that some laws, which permit women to divorce their husbands and claim half of their property or monthly alimony, are being misused by certain women.

I also find myself wondering why financially dependent women make excellent wives, while financially independent, intellectual women seem more inclined to seek divorce. As a student of English literature, I have compiled a list of renowned female writers who chose to divorce their husbands. Why is it that women, upon gaining financial independence, seem to seek freedom from traditional domestic life? Do they marry primarily for financial security or is their intention to build and nurture healthy families?

I have included only internationally influential female writers in this list. If I were to add names of women from sports, cinema, business, etc., the list would become never-ending:

1) Doris Lessing

2) Jamaica Kincaid

3) Adrienne Rich

4) Gayatri Spivak

5) Amrita Pritam

6) Hilary Mental

7) Wistawa (NB 1996)

8) Alice Munro (NB 2013)

9) Arundhati Roy

10) Margaret Atwood

11) Angela Carter

12) Dame Muriel Spark

13) Dorothy Hewett

14) Beatrice Cullenton

15) Tasleema Nasreen ( 5 times divorcee)

16) Barkha Dutt ( Twice Divorcee)

17) Nadine Gordimer 1(NB)

18) Wistawa szymborska (NB)

19)Svetlana Alexievich (NB)

20) Louise Gluck

21) Olga Tokarczuk (NB)

22) Lydia Davis

Moral: Give a woman financial freedom, she will give you a divorce.
